ALS salute
Altus Airman Leadership School Class 16-D students salute the colors as it is lowered during a retreat ceremony at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma, March 14. In a nod to Air Force custom, ALS students are required to complete a retreat ceremony as part of their Airmanship tasks. In a cooperation with Altus Air Force Base, Altus ALS instructors commonly travel to Vance to teach classes that are predominantly made up of Vance Airmen, saving the Air Force approximately $30 thousand per class in travel costs. Altitude chamber
Staff Sgt. Miriam Hernandez, 359th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Aerospace and Operational Physiology technician, lectures students on the use of their altitude chamber equipment and procedures to ensure their comfort and safety during training April 8, 2015 at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. Any students with Air Force specialties including enlisted aircrew, pararescue, remotely piloted aircraft, introduction to fighter fundamentals or pilot instructor training must first learn about human performance in airborne operations at the 359th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Aerospace and Operational Physiology Flight at JBSA-Randolph. A few tools used to train students include a Barany chair to help combat the motion sickness that comes with flying aircraft, an altitude chamber to familiarize students with hypoxia and a flight simulator for night vision goggle training.
