Master Sgt. Kevin Hicks, an air surveillance technician with the 728th Air Control Squadron, monitors his scope and communicates with other controllers prior to the squadron’s final mission Jan. 31 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The 62-year-old squadron, an air command and control unit, will be deactivated in May. Their final mission was to control 33rd Fighter Wing F-35s for a tactical intercept mission.
