1977 -- The first class of female pilots, shown here, received their wings Sept. 2., 1977. The first of two groups of 10 women pilot candidates began flight screening at Hondo Municipal Airport, Texas, Aug. 26, prior to entering UPT at Williams Air Force Base, Ariz., Sept. 29.
