Surging
Crew chiefs from the 60th Aircraft Maintenance Unit prepare F-15C Eagles for the next set of sorties during surge operations July 17 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. During surge operations, flying takes place throughout the day from early morning to dusk. Surges are used to help the wing simulate wartime flying. The intensified flying also benefits the wing in all facets of training. The 33d Fighter Wing is conducting surge operations July 17 through July 19. During a normal surge, 15-20 jets will take off, fly a mission, land and refuel then take off again in rapid rotation up to three times. Up to 100 sorties in a day's time may be flown.
