Crew chiefs from the 60th Aircraft Maintenance Unit prepare F-15C Eagles for the next set of sorties during surge operations July 17 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. During surge operations, flying takes place throughout the day from early morning to dusk. Surges are used to help the wing simulate wartime flying. The intensified flying also benefits the wing in all facets of training. The 33d Fighter Wing is conducting surge operations July 17 through July 19. During a normal surge, 15-20 jets will take off, fly a mission, land and refuel then take off again in rapid rotation up to three times. Up to 100 sorties in a day's time may be flown. Master Sgt. Glass receives a shadow box from Maj. Michael Shetler, 325th Maintenance Operations Squadron commander during his retirement ceremony July 29. The box highlights awards and medals Sergeant Glass received since his Air Force career began 23 years ago when he and his twin brother attended basic and technical training together. EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, FL., -- At 3:33 p.m. Jun. 27, Col. Glenn Ferguson assumes command of the 33d Maintenance Group in the 33d Maintenance Operations Squadron Training Hangar at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. Colonel Ferguson is a recent graduate from Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, AL.
Lt. Col. Todd Jaax, 58th Fighter Squadron commander, completes the customs declaration upon landing his F-15C Eagle at 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta for Maple Flag 41 Period Two May 17. Maple Flag is a four week international air combat exercise held annually at 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta. The exercise provides Canadian and allied aircrew with realistic training in a modern simulated air combat environment, and emphasizes air operations involving large package coalition forces.
