Meet U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Carrie Burgireno, a crew chief with the 58th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, 33rd Fighter Wing, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. She hails from Adairsville, Georgia, and joined the Air Force in November 2020.

"As a crew chief, we are responsible for maintaining our aircraft to keep them safe and mission capable by performing daily maintenance, inspections and replacing parts, as needed," said Burgireno. "I always wanted to join the Air Force because I thought it would be so cool to work on jets."

Being a crew chief for the F-35A Lightning II comes with even more responsibilities.

"In my opinion, the biggest challenge is that there is so much to learn about this aircraft that it is almost intimidating as a newer crew chief," said Burgireno. "The best and only way to overcome this challenge is to keep learning and have some fun being around and working on this aircraft."

Outside of work, Burgireno enjoys reading and being outside.

"To anyone who wants to join, I've loved every second of my career so far and my only regret is not joining sooner."
