Family Support Center now called Airman and Family Readiness Flight Published Sept. 13, 2006 By Megan Orton Air Education and Training Command Public Affairs RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AETCNS) -- Air Force officials announced Aug. 14 the Family Support Center will be renamed as the Airman and Family Readiness Flight. This change "incorporates the expanded scope and responsibilities over time," said Christine Burnett, Air Education and Training Command human wellness branch chief. A memo released by Col. Greg Patterson, AETC A1 Manpower and Personnel director, noted the changes in the FSC's responsibilities from 1981 to present-day. In 1981, the FSC "primarily served families and concentrated on issues involving married Airmen and their spouses," he said. By 1991, this role had been expanded to provide services to all active-duty members whether single or married. The A&FRF begins the focus on Airmen and families as part of the expeditionary Air Force. "Where there are Airmen or families with a need, we are there to assist--deployments, relocations, natural disasters--we're there to serve," Burnett said. Burnett said she wants to assure Airmen and their families that the change is simply a name change--the services provided by the organization are the same. The mission of the A&FRF has not expanded as a result of the name change, although mission expansion may be possible in the future. No new personnel will be hired at this time. "No matter what the name, we've always been a flexible and adaptable organization," Burnett said. "It's the nature of the work we do, and that will always be the case."
