Hurricane Katrina medical evacuations

LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Medical patients evacuated from Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., in the wake of Hurricane Katrina are unloaded from a C-17 Globemaster III here Aug. 30. Hurricane Katrina patients brought to Wilford Hall

LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AETCNS) -- Medical personnel from Wilford Hall Medical Center left Kelly Field here Aug. 30 to help evacuate patients from the Gulf Coast area hit by Hurricane Katrina Aug. 29.

Three critical care teams and one obstetrics team departed in a C-130 Hercules for Keesler AFB, Miss. They request for help came in after the hospital at Keesler was damaged by the storm.

About 25 hospitalized patients and 31 obstetric patients and their families were brought back from Mississippi to Wilford Hall the night of Aug. 30.
