Air Force meets, exceeds recruiting goals

RANDOLPH AFB, Texas --  The Air Force met its active-duty enlisted recruiting goal for the eighth year in a row and exceeded its chaplain and Officer Training School accession goals for fiscal 2007.

From October 2006 through the end of September 2007, Air Force officials brought in 27,760 new enlistees and 41 prior-service Airmen. Additionally, 27 chaplains came into the Air Force, exceeding the service's goal of 25 for the year.  The total of 499 Airmen selected to attend Officer Training School represented 103 percent of the Air Force goal of 482.  Air Force officials also commissioned 810 health professionals.

"Today's Air Force continues to attract the highest quality of men and women," said Lt. Col. Angelo Haygood, Air Force Recruiting Service deputy chief of operations. "Last year we accessed nearly 28,000 enlisted members, with nearly 80 percent of them scoring in the top 50 percentile of the Armed Forces Qualifying Test."

Air Force officials are still hiring and will seek to fill more than 150 enlisted career specialty areas with 27,760 new Airmen in 2008.

Security forces, airborne linguists, ground linguists and aerospace maintenance were the most high-demand Air Force career fields in 2007. Combat controllers, linguists, pararescuemen and health professionals will continue to be highly sought after in 2008.

"Attracting the right mix of health professionals with the right skill sets is vital to sustaining the quality and readiness of the Air Force medical corps," said Chief Master Sgt. Bill Cavenaugh, Air Force Recruiting Service superintendent of officer accessions. "This year we anticipate making more than 400 health profession scholarships available to qualified candidates pursuing studies in various medical, dental and biomedical science career fields."
