367th Recruiting Group closes its doors

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --  The last day of September will mark a significant moment in Air Force Recruiting Service history when the 367th Recruiting Group here officially closes.

The 367th RCG  is comprised of seven squadrons and more than 750 personnel dispersed over 13 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The group is responsible for the annual accession of more than 8,000 highly qualified candidates to meet Air Force requirements in prior and non-prior service enlistments, health professions and line officers.

Effective Oct. 1, Air Force Recruiting Service realigns its four groups into three, reduces recruiting squadrons from 27 to 24, and reorganizes Health Professions recruiting into 24 regional hubs throughout the United States. 

In addition to the reorganization, AFRS is adding 124 recruiters and 76 support staff members to the command.

The changes are in response to Program Budget Decision 720 and the Air Force's recent announcement to increase the Air Force end strength from 316,000 personnel to 330,000. PBD 720 is the plan that charts how the Air Force will save billions of dollars for use in replacing aging aircraft and equipment by streamlining its force, and by increasing the efficiency of select organizations and processes. The plan was initiated in fiscal 2007 and is scheduled to continue through fiscal 2009.

The 367th RCG squadrons are being reassigned to the 360th and 369th Recruiting Groups.

In a deactivation ceremony Sept. 12, Colonel Michael Brice relinquished command to Brig. Gen. A.J. Stewart, AFRS commander.
