International Motorcycle Ride to Work Day Published June 15, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Matthew Varga 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Green Knights Motorcycle Club and other motorcyclists thundered through Sheppard AFB promoting motorcycle awareness and safe riding for International Motorcycle Awareness Ride to Work Day June 15. Richard Chamberlin, a Sheppard Fire Department Dispatcher and the club's president, said this was the first time the club rode for Motorcycle Awareness Ride to Work Day, however, they plan to ride every year. The Green Knights is a national military motorcycle association whose goal is to inspire camaraderie, safety and encourage mentorship among the cyclist community. The club also promotes safety and encourages motorists to share the road with motorcycles. With more than 600 motorcycle riders from Sheppard, the safety office is heavily involved with making sure the Green Knights record accurate numbers of riders and abide by base safety standards. The clubpartners with the safety office to make sure all riders have proper personal protective equipment. "The safety office gives the club 100 percent support; we just make sure they adhere to base safety standards," said James Zillweger, 82nd Training Wing chief of safety.
