Altus' C-17 Globemaster III Rodeo Team returned this morning July 26 from their personnel airdrop, Night Vision Goggle low level flying, night air refueling and NVG assault landing events, which they accomplished last night during the 2011 Air Mobility Command Rodeo.

"It was challenging but I think we did well overall," said Maj. Matthew Inscoe, 58th Airlift Squadron Rodeo Team chief. "It's rewarding to go out and overcome a challenge."

As one aircrew returned the 54th Air Refueling Squadron was taking off and completed air refueling and instrument approach events this morning.

"It was challenging competing with a C-5 Galaxy team we had never practiced with before, said Capt. Matthew Lilly, 54th ARS Rodeo Team chief. "The air refueling competition had three parts and we aced the first two parts of it."

The final event for Team Altus was the 25k Halvorson driving event, in which according to a Rodeo umpire, the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron Rodeo Team lassoed the fastest course completion time for the competition so far. During the event operators demonstrated their proficiency in maneuvering a 25k-loader around obstacles, followed by precisely aligning and unloading pallets on to a highline dock area.

As the sun sets on the third day of the Rodeo, Team Altus is preparing for tomorrow's long list of scheduled events which include: The Security Forces Combat Weapons course, an engine running on-load/off-load, in transit visibility event, a joint inspection, KC-135 Stratotanker maintenance skills competition, KC-135 maintenance preflight challenge, C-17 air refueling, low level, and assault landing.

Scores from events today have not yet been posted.

Editor's note: This is the fourth part of an eight part series.
