Air Force Security Forces set to pass the torch In Brookhaven, Miss. Published July 27, 2011 14th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- "Ruck March to Remember" volunteers from the 14th Security Forces Squadron, Columbus AFB, Miss. will pass the flag off to members of the 1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fla., at noon Thursday, July 28 in Brookhaven, Miss., on 160 Highway 84 East at the Mississippi State Highway Patrol Troop E Headquarters, so they can begin their portion of the 2,181 mile trek to Ground Zero in New York City, commemorating the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. Beginning July 12, Air Force security forces members from 23 units nationwide have volunteered their own time to march 2,181 miles from the Air Force Security Forces Center in San Antonio, Texas past Shanksville, Pa.(where Flight 93 went down) to arrive Sept. 11 at Ground Zero in New York City. "We simply had to take part in this historic 2,200 mile event. By participating we honor those heroic warriors, from every branch, who have willingly given their lives, limbs and sight so that we may be free from terror's grip," said Maj. Joseph Ringer, 14th Security Forces Squadron commander. "This truly is a team effort.you will see Air Force Defenders marching along the road but they represent all Airmen who are stand the watch at home station, overseas and while deployed."
