Tyndall officials evacuate aircraft

  • Published
Tyndall Air Force Base officials have ordered the evacuation of aircraft as a precaution because of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The aircraft are being dispersed to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. "Safe Haven" bases are chosen on the basis of their locations, out of danger of the storm, and their ability to house Tyndall support personnel and provide maintenance to Tyndall's aircraft.

This does not mean the base is being evacuated. Base personnel should check with their work centers, the base community access channel, cable channel 12, Tyndall website or the 325th Fighter Wing Facebook page for additional information.

Preparations for safeguarding residences by securing windows/doors, preparing an evacuation kit to include water containers, important documents, money and medication should be underway.

Aircraft evacuated will return when the storm danger has passed. Currently, there has been no decision to evacuate base personnel.
