Get the job done

"Get the job done," was the theme of Col. Todd Harmer's first Commander's Call as commander of the 33d Fighter Wing at Eglin Air Force Base Jan. 25 in Nomad Hall.

He emphasized "knowing your job, doing your job better than anyone else and making things happen."

During the Commander's Call, he talked about the mission, changes, expectations, transition and his promise to the Airmen of the 33d FW.

"I hate change, but I like progress," the colonel said. "The right way we're doing business is the right way of doing things."

Colonel Harmer added that progress and improvements should always be made.

"We have the experience, we've been doing it for awhile and it's probably right but not perfect," he explained. "Where we can do things better and change the way we do things that is progress."

Among the many issues the Air Force faces today Colonel Harmer said are to win the war on terrorism, take care of each other and do what we can to make sure we are not only relevant for the current fight but for years to come as well.

"So we remain the most feared and respected Air Force on the planet," the commander said. "We will continue to transform, modernize and recapitalize, so we can do our part."

Colonel Harmer said he expects his Airmen to follow the core values.

"Integrity, service and excellence is where it should begin; that we are combat mission ready, own the mission, disciplined, good wingmen, and focused on the mission," he said. "This is what I expect out of you, and I promise those things in return."

The transition of the 33d FW from a combat wing to a training wing will not be seen for another 15 months. In the meantime Colonel Harmer asked his fellow Airmen to remain focused on the mission and not on the transition.

"We will do our utmost to take care of you," Colonel Harmer said.
